Massage Styles
A guide to the types of massage offered at our office.
Which style is right for you?
The most common style of massage in the United States is Swedish massage.
If you have not had a massage before, this is a good first choice.
Swedish massage therapy can be very gentle and relaxing. Using massage lotion or oil you will experience long soothing strokes, kneading, or circular movements on superficial layers of muscle.
Smooth stones that are heated are used as tools along with the bare hands to loosen tight muscles and balance energy centers in the body. The stones are placed on the body as well as used in applying gentle pressure. The warmth is soothing and relaxing. Hot stone massage is a perfect treatment for people who have muscle tension but prefer a more soothing treatment.
Deep Tissue Massage
Targeting the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue this technique is used for chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, and recovery from injuries. Deep tissue massage may leave the body sore for a day or two, but drinking extra water the day before, the day of, and the day after your treatment can reduce this effect by cleansing the tissues of toxins quickly.
Sports Massage
This treatment is designed for preventing and treating sport related injuries. Sports massage enhances athletic performance and is used by people who lead active lifestyles. The technique combines strokes to loosen and stretch muscle bundles and employs a deeper touch than the Swedish Massage.
Pregnancy MassagePrenatal massage helps to reduce stress, relieve aches and pains, create balance, reduce swelling, and help to overcome depression or anxiety. This treatment is very relaxing and is also good for your skin.
