Ski Season Prep for Your Back: Tips from a Centennial Chiropractor

Ski season is close, and lots of Centennial folks will be heading up I-70 soon. A little prep now helps your back, hips, and knees handle those first days on the slopes.

Get your spine and hips moving before opening day

Skiing and snowboarding ask a lot of your low back and hips. If one side is tight or out of balance, the other side works harder, and that is often where soreness starts. Start loosening up a few weeks ahead with easy hip circles, gentle lunges, and cat-cow stretches.

Build a little leg and core strength

Wall sits, squats, and short planks go a long way. Stronger legs and core take pressure off your low back on long runs and in the lift line.

Warm up in the parking lot

Cold muscles tighten up fast at altitude. Take five minutes for leg swings, trunk turns, and a few squats before your first run.

Don’t ignore a fall

A hard fall can jar your neck and back even when you feel fine that day. If stiffness, headaches, or low back pain show up afterward, it is worth getting checked. At Maximized Health we start with a thorough exam and X-rays when needed, so we know what is going on before we adjust.
